Business Diversity Provides Stability

Being close to one of the nation’s largest research parks and three nationally renowned research universities puts Johnston County in an enviable position for recruiting new, high-tech companies.

Business and industry in the county includes some of the largest, best-known corporate names. Companies such as Grifolds Biotherapeutics, Sysco Food Services and Caterpillar, employ about 30,000 people in the county, accounting for $500 million in payroll.

Several foreign-owned companies now have facilities in Johnston County. Among these are SONA BLW Precision Forge, a Indian producer of high tech metal products for the aerospace and transportation industries. Canadia company, Technion Studio Group, manufacturers office seating. Novo Nordisk, a Danish pharmaceutical company, produces insulin. Swedish-owned Hospira also produces pharmaceuticals.

A new workforce development center works with existing industries to offer specific training for Johnston County companies
