Something Fun For Everyone!

Smithfield-Selma area families have access to the widest possible array of artistic, recreational and outdoor activities. There is something for everyone, from attending a concert or play to the challenges of golf and tennis to hiking, biking or boating.

Cultural activities abound, not only in local state-of-the-art facilities, but also nearby in the Triangle cities of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.

The Parks and Recreation Departments in Smithfield and Selma plan comprehensive, year-round programs of activities for all ages. They include athletics, arts and crafts, music, dance and outdoor and social recreation. There are also a number of golf courses, tennis courts, health and wellness centers, community parks and swimming facilities.

Senior citizens are not overlooked in the two communities. Both Selma and Smithfield have senior citizen centers where special activities are offered.

Anglers can try their luck and expertise in such nearby lakes as Jordan Lake, Falls Lake and Kerr Lake or tackle salt-water fishing off the North Carolina coast. The nearby lakes are popular, as well, for water sports.

Nature is plentiful everywhere in the area. In addition to local walking  and hiking trails, there are a number of nature preserves and state parks within a short drive.

Two of North Carolina's best family street festivals are held right here in the Smithfield-Selma area. Every year, both communities come together to celebrate this area's heritage with food, music and fun on two event-paced weekends. Smithfield's Ham & Yam Festival is held every year on the first weekend in May. Selma's Railroad Days Celebration takes place on the first weekend in October.

Indeed there is something fun for everyone in the Smithfield-Selma area.
